France is steeped in ongoing mass riots that includes the burning of buildings, buses and cars, vandalism and looting following the fatal police shooting Nahel M, on June 27, 2023. Nahel was a 17-year old of Algerian and Moroccan descent and the protests are against alleged police abuse and racism, although his family said the riots are not for Nahel. The teen refused to stop for police and struck an officer before he was shot and crashed his car; he had an extensive police record.
