As time travels forward, one differential between Canadian and American democracy is taking on increasingly significant meaning.
American Presidents are limited to two-terms in office. In Canada, there is no limit to the number of terms spent in office.
In a recent interview, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that he intends to run for a fourth consecutive term. Smart money says he will win– a victory that would stand as unprecedented in Canadian history. There is nothing that can prevent him from pursuing a fifth or sixth term in office.
Canadian officials are now arguing for an introduction of term limits in Canada. A public opinion poll from Angus Reid suggests that many Canadians would like to change this. ore than half (54%) say term limits for elected politicians are necessary.
Will it happen? Not a chance in Hades.
