Call for ban comes in the wake of mass shootings in Las Vegas and Florida.
US President Donald Trump has called for a ban on bump stocks – devices which can increase the firing speed of semi-automatic weapons.
In a speech, Trump said he had ordered US Attorney General Jeff Sessions to look into bump stocks, and is now planning to take action:
“That process began in December and just a few moments ago I signed a memorandum directing the Attorney General to propose regulations to ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns. “I expect that these critical regulations will be finalized, Jeff, very soon,” said Trump.
