Last week, Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford, who championed the state’s criminal justice reform legislation that includes no-cash bail, had her loaner Mercedes Benz SUV carjacked at gunpoint by 3 masked men. Her husband was driving and fired back at the thieves with his legal concealed carry gun. Earlier this year in Chicago, Senator Elgie Sims was angered when another driver who allegedly pointed a handgun at him as they drove in Springfield got out of jail by posting $1,500. Sims complained that by releasing the man on bail, he would be free to do this again.
