I’ve spent my career defending constitutional rights in Canada. I’ve stood in courtrooms arguing for the fundamental freedoms that we once took for granted in this country. But I have to tell you something that keeps me up at night: we are witnessing a descent into lawlessness and tyranny that became glaringly apparent during the COVID response, and it’s only getting worse.
What happened in Canada during the pandemic was worse than even the most draconian measures implemented in American states. I don’t say that lightly. As president of the Natural Health Products Protection Association and a founding member of the National Citizens Inquiry, I was on the cutting edge of documenting the horrors perpetrated under the guise of “COVID response.” The stories we gathered from across this country are nothing short of chilling.
We heard from healthcare workers who dedicated their lives to caring for others, only to be fired for refusing experimental medical treatments. We listened to business owners whose livelihoods were destroyed overnight by arbitrary lockdowns that made no scientific sense. We documented the anguish of families torn apart, of parents unable to hold the hands of their dying loved ones in hospitals, of children denied education and socialization during critical developmental years.
But here’s what makes this truly dangerous: virtually nobody has been held accountable for trampling on people’s rights or for these abuses of power.
Let me be clear about what this means. When government officials can freeze the bank accounts of peaceful protesters, when they can mandate experimental medical interventions, when they can silence dissent and destroy lives with impunity—and face zero consequences—that sets a terrifying precedent. The lack of accountability sends an unmistakable message: they can do it again, and they probably will.
