Chris Scott, the owner of the tiny Whistlestop cafe in Mirror, Ab., has launched legal action against Alberta Health Services and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw for shutting down his business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scott and his cafe, 50 km east of Red Deer, were the lightning rod for protest actions against the restrictions imposed by the Alberta government during the pandemic.

AHS ordered him closed and when he refused he was ticketed by the RCMP. Later in May, officers – in a Prohibition-style raid – took all his booze.
